Our Impact

Inspiration & Guidance to Wales

Popham Kidney Support continues to grow year on year, with increased fundraising enabling the expansion of services and improved outcomes for people affected by kidney disease.

Our flagship Popham Peer Support Service trains patients to become volunteer Peer Mentors. Our 28 dedicated volunteers provide emotional wellbeing support, treatment guidance, and practical advice to individuals throughout their kidney journey. This year, volunteers also established two new Kidney Cafés, supporting over 60 people across Wales.

In November 2024, we were honoured to receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, recognising the exceptional contribution of our volunteers. This achievement has reinforced our commitment to developing services with volunteers at the heart of our work. Ongoing support is provided through regular one-to-one engagement, training, regional meetings, and supervision. We are also exploring the introduction of a check-in or befriending service for those requiring ongoing support.

As our services now operate across all of Wales, we continue to strengthen partnerships with local Councils for Voluntary Services and wellbeing hubs. We are increasing awareness and referrals by attending more clinics, particularly in North Wales, and developing a robust patient pathway.

Working collaboratively with Welsh kidney charities, the Welsh Kidney Network, NHS colleagues, and the Kidney Cross-Party Group, we continue to advocate for improved and more efficient services. This report reflects our service development, the people supported, and the volunteers who make our work possible.
